Who I Am

I value connection, understanding, compassion, and autonomy. I strongly believe in the need for connection and our own individuality. Humans are social-emotional beings who thrive with a balance between connection with others and their own autonomy. This philosophy strongly influences my therapeutic approach. I prioritize creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for all groups of individuals regardless of their ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity. I see clients as the driver of their own growth and change, and my role is to help facilitate that process through providing emotional support, introspection, and greater awareness and understanding of oneself.

I have been practicing therapy for over 10 years. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in working with individuals and couples to meet their desired goals. I work with a range of emotional and mental health challenges, with a particular interest in interpersonal challenges, life transitions, relationships, mood and anxiety, trauma, and perinatal mental health.

Therapeutic Approach

I practice from a humanistic lens using an eclectic mix of compassion-based therapeutic approaches. I predominantly use Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) which is rooted in attachment theory and science. In addition, I use other techniques such as mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-self compassion where needed. In my work with couples I use EFT for couples, which focuses on rebuilding and strengthening connection in relationships through addressing emotional needs and communication challenges.

It is well researched that the relationship between client and therapist is the strongest predictor of a successful outcome in therapy. I am a dedicated practitioner that strongly values creating a strong collaborative alliance with my clients so that they may feel safe and understood.

Education

I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology from McMaster University and a PhD in Medical Science from the University of Toronto.  My research has been published in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed publications. My practice serves the GTA, as well as Grimsby and surrounding area. I am registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the College of Psychologists of Alberta.
